“Everything is clearer in retrospect. You know what or how you could have done something better when looking back. Things are not so clear or easy when you are under pressure to care for your loved one 24/7. Your responsibilities are great, and you often must perform your duties without proper rest or assistance.
Most of us caregivers are much kinder and forgiving to others than to ourselves. Instead of shaming yourself about something you could have done better, realistically look at the forest instead of the trees: You have so much responsibility that it is impossible to be at the top of your game at all times. Tell yourself what you would tell a friend: ‘Don’t get stuck on failures. It benefits no one. ‘
Prayer: Your forgiveness, Lord, releases me from my failings. I promise to strive to more fully reflect your light. “
