Become a Providence Associate

Joining a religious organization isn’t the life most of us can commit to. We don’t envision our lives as priests, brothers, or sisters. But many of us do want to connect with a religious community as a layperson, and many communities offer such an option. The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the Woods, Indiana is one of them.

We, who love Saint Mother Theodore Guerin pray for her guidance. We solicit her prayers. We use her as a role model for living a life “leaning on Providence.” We can take that devotion one step further by applying as a Providence Associate.

Providence Associates are women and men of faith 18 years and older who desire an intentional relationship with the Sisters of Providence. The association with the Sisters is a way to share our individual gifts and talents with their mission to create a more just and hope-filled world through prayer, education, service, and advocacy.

Once accepted as an associate, candidates become acquainted with the community over the course of one year. They then are asked to make a commitment for one, 3, or five years at a time with the option to renew that commitment. Associates are invited to participate in retreats, events, programs, and volunteer opportunities.

There is no financial, legal, or canonical obligation between the Sisters of Providence and Providence Associates.

Providence Associates is a relatively new program and currently number more than 200. Would you like to join these men and women in following in the steps of Saint Mother Theodore and the Sisters of Providence of Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods?
